Mr. Michael John Graham

Michael John (Sosedyke) Graham was born on February 10, 1956, to Lucille Graham and Basil Mcleam in Georgetown, Guyana. He grew up in a loving family and was shaped by the values imparted by his parents. Michael attended East Ruimveldt Secondary School, where he graduated before embarking on a career with the Guyana Telephone and Telegraph Corporation as a technician. His curiosity and aptitude for technology were evident from an early age. A true enthusiast of modern technology, Michael was well known as the go-to-person for solving technological challenges. He took pride in making complicated devices seem simple and approachable. Michael also enjoyed traveling, sharing memorable journeys with family and friends, and embraced life with joy and enthusiasm. He never met a stranger, and he easily engaged with everyone he would meet. Michael had a passion for following current events and was especially fond of watching MSNBC. Michael was known for his patience, particularly when he taught younger family members how to drive, guiding them with kindness and encouragement. In 1992, Michael migrated to the United States in search of better opportunities. He began his career as a lab courier at Saint Michael’s Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. In 2009, he married the love of his life Penny Whatley Grady. As their journey together they moved to Villa Rica, Georgia, where Michael joined Flower’s Bakery in the Shipping Department. His dedication continued when he moved to Opelika, Alabama, remaining with Flowers Bakery until his retirement. Michael was a man of deep faith, firmly believing in the goodness and riches of God. At an early age he joined St. Pius Catholic Church, Georgetown, Guyana. After relocating to Opelika, Alabama, he became a devoted member of Zion At The Hill A.M.E. Zion Church, contributing actively to his spiritual community until his health failed. Michael John Graham peacefully transitioned on Friday, August 30, 2025, at his home in Opelika, Alabama. He is reunited with his parents and three sisters, Joan, Carol and Denise, to embrace in the loving arms of our Savior. Michael’s legacy endures in the hearts of his family, who cherished and loved him deeply. Precious memories will forever be cherished by his family. His loving and caring wife Penny Graham, Opelika, Alabama; one son, Michael Graham; one daughter, Iesha Graham, Georgetown Guyana; and a bonus son, Brandon Grady, Opelika, Alabama; one sister, Donna (Phillip) Scantlebury, East Orange, New Jersey; two brothers, Neil Graham, Georgetown Guyana and Reverend Keith (Gillian) Graham, Bequia, Saint Vincent; ten sisters-in-law, Kecia Jernegon-Hall, Jamaica, New York, Lisa Whatley, Charlotte, North Carolina, Darlene Whatley, Marietta, Georgia, Katie (Ira) Harte, Seattle Washington, Laurie (Stanley) Thomas, Phenix City, Alabama, Latonya Henderson, Crestview, Florida, Mary (Steve) Robinson, Michelle (Eddie) Pitts, Sheneka Robinson, Opelika, Alabama, and Anne (Dexter) Tolbert, Douglasville, Georgia; three brothers-in- law, Kevin Whatley, Saint Petersburg, Florida, Daryl Whatley, and Crist Robinson, Opelika, Alabama; seven aunts, Marie Whatley, Patricia Bryant, Portia Whatley, Annie Whatley, Opelika, Alabama, Gloria (AJ) Johnson, Conyers, Georgia, Lestine Whatley, Stone Mountain, Georgia, and Viola Gabbin, Colorado Springs, Colorado.
