Mr. David Stinson

On June 30, 1949, David was born into the family of Mr. James Stinson and Mrs. Annie Pearl Buchanan Stinson. He was born in Opelika, Alabama and became the fifth child born into the Stinson’s family. In 1968, David graduated from J. W. Darden High School. His career began with the United States Air Force, serving his country for eight (8) years. In addition, he served four (4) years with the Army National Guard and the Reserves. Upon returning to the area, his quest for education continued as he earned an Associate Degree in General Business (1978) from Alexander City State Junior College, a graduate of LaSalle College, a BS Degree from Troy University (1980), US Army Institute of Personnel and Resource Management in Computer Science School from Fort Benjamin in Harrison, IN (1983), and Auburn University in Accounting and Tax Training Institute (2012). David made numerous accomplishments during the course of his life. Most notably, he started D&S Tax Service, in 1979. He grew it into a very successful business up to this day. His clients will remember the aromas coming from the kitchen of his home-based business. He was an excellent cook and enjoyed frying chicken and fish, making gumbo and creamed beef. David made the best old-fashioned banana pudding and would have to sometimes make it two days in a row to keep each family member happy. He also had a love for old cars and owned several that caught the attention of passersby and clients. David had a heart of gold that motivated him to help anyone in need. On Friday, October 24, 2025, David entered into eternal rest at his home surrounded by loved ones. He was a loving and kind soul who loved his family deeply and will surely be missed. He has now joined his father, James Stinson, who preceded him in death. David is survived by: his loving and devoted wife of fifty-four (54) years, Yvonne Dowdell Stinson of Opelika, AL; caring children, Tania (Tim) Moore of Opelika, AL, Dr. Darryl (Vicki) Stinson of Lawton, OK, and Brian (Keisha) Stinson of Opelika, AL; special grandchildren, Tevin (Dany) Stinson and Jaylen Stinson all of Opelika, AL, Tre’Von Moore of Orlando, FL, Jarell Stinson of Miami, FL, Dillon Stinson of Tulsa, OK, Haille Stinson of Dallas, TX, Tyler Moore of Atlanta, GA, Jordan Stinson and Tiana Moore both of Opelika, AL; doting great grands who made him smile, Tytin, Taylin, Tobias and J’Zya Stinson all of Opelika, AL; his mother, Mrs. Annie Pearl Stinson of Opelika, AL; siblings, Betty Jane Conway, Willie (Brenda) Stinson, Edward Stinson, Thomas (Edna) Stinson, Lillie Woodson and, Carolyn (Howard) Brooks all of Opelika, AL, Benjamin (Beverly) Stinson of Evans, GA, Alphonso (Vivian) Freeman of Opelika, AL and Derrick (Cathy) Calloway of Alexander City, AL; sisters-in-law, Frances Carlisle and Shirley Fuller both of Opelika, AL, Janie (Willie) Daniels of Palm Bay, FL, Mary (Woodrow) Jackson and Emma France both of Opelika, AL; brothers-in-law, John Edwards of Opelika, AL, Elder Jimmy Dowdell of Sparks, NV, JW (Earline ) Dowdell of Phenix City, AL, Vernon Dowdell and Michael (Velma) Dowdell both of Opelika, AL; an aunt, Mrs. Mary Abrams of Opelika, AL; numerous nieces, nephews and other relatives; close friend, Billy Edwards and many more friends and classmates; his dedicated office staff, Linda Linson, Toni Williams and Richard S.
