Johnny Richmond “Mr. Penny” Funeral service for Mr. Johnny Richmond, 60, of Auburn will be held at 1:00 pm Tuesday, June 17, 2014 at Auburn United Methodist Church with interment in Westview Cemetery. Dr. Stephen Faulk will officiate. Mr. Richmond, affectionately called “Mr. Penny”, passed Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at his home. He was a member of Auburn A.M.E. Zion Church. Until his health declined, he served as chairman of the Steward Board, as Preacher Steward, member of the Usher Board, Male Chorus, Gospel Chorus, Trustee Board and as a Class Leader. In 1972, he graduated from Auburn High School. For more than thirty-seven years, he was employed at Dean Road Elementary School. He also assisted the Auburn Police Department as a school crossing guard. Many will remember Mr. Penny as a true Auburn Tiger fan. He was known for his celebratory push ups following Auburn’s touchdowns in Jordan-Hare Stadium. His remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Survivors: his wife, Lula Richmond of Auburn; his mother, Dora Lockhart of Auburn; two daughters, Marenda Richmond of Auburn and Felicia Cooper of Opelika; one son, Rodney Cooper of Auburn; seven grandchildren; a brother, Chatman (Margaret) Richmond of New Rochelle, NY; three sisters-in-law, Mattie Carr of Opelika, Frankie Foster of Greensboro, NC and Ora Lee Oliver of Columbus, GA; two brothers-in-law, Jerry Russaw of Indianapolis, IN and Walter Russaw of Opelika; special friends, Lovell Grimmett of Albany, GA and Alphonso Finley of Auburn; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
