Mrs. Effie Mae Torbert

Funeral service for Mrs. Effie M. Torbert, 88, of Auburn will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, July 19, 2014 at White Street Missionary Baptist Church with interment in Westview Cemetery. Pastor Jamal Oliver will officiate. Mrs. Torbert passed Sunday, July 13, 2014 at Dadeville Health Care Center. She was a member of White Street Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a member of the Missionary Society, director of the J.G. Chatman’s Children Choir, advisor of the Sunbeams and Red Circle and organized the Mass Junior Missionary Society, bringing together members in the Auburn, Loachapoka and Opelika areas. Mrs. Torbert graduated from Opelika State Vocational Technical School of Practical Nursing and was licensed by the State of Alabama in 1969. Preceding her in death were: her husband, Cary Torbert, Sr., a son, Melvin Torbert, Sr. and a granddaughter, Charity Porter. Her remains will lie in state at the church one hour prior to the service. Survivors: three children, Cary (Bene’) Torbert, Jr., Doris Torbert Hutchinson and Gwendolyn Torbert Tinsley all of Auburn; nine grandchildren, Tonia (Melvin) Haralson, William (Beverly) Neloms, Jr., Roderick (Pam) Torbert, Melvin (Joann) Torbert, Jr., Joseph (Andrea Callaway) Tinsley, Jr., Cary (Arlana) Torbert, III, Andre (Tina) Torbert, Anthony (Vickie) Tinsley, Sr., and Shanda R. Torbert; four step grandchildren and sixteen great grandchildren; one sister, Edwina (Richard) Allen of Atlanta, GA; an aunt, Mary Ellen Trimble of Camphill; a childhood friend, Marie Cason of Tuskegee; a very special cousin, Linda Silmon of Dadeville; godchildren, Janice (Eddie) Frazier, Sr., Sandra (Ed) Hall, Norma Moore, Earnest Richardson and his siblings all of Auburn; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
