Mr. Cary Cannon

Funeral service for Mr. Cary Cannon, 70, of Auburn will be held at 11:00 am Thursday, August 13, 2015 at Peterson and Williams Chapel with interment in Fort Mitchell National Cemetery. Rev. Annie Ruth Cannon will officiate. Mr. Cannon passed away Thursday, August 6, 2015 at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Decatur, GA. He was a member of Zion At The Hill A.M.E. Zion Church where he served as chairman of the Trustee Board. In 1964, he graduated from Tuskegee Institute High School. Following graduation, he entered the U.S. Army, serving during the Vietnam War. During his tenure in Vietnam, Mr. Cannon was awarded a Purple Heart and two Bronze Stars. He furthered his education at Wenonah State and graduated in brick masonry. After thirty-two years, he retired from Uniroyal Goodrich Inc.. The family will receive family and friends at the funeral home this evening at 6:00 pm. Survivors: one son, Albert Tolbert of Auburn, AL; six sisters, Agnes Preston and Princess (Omri) Lavine both of Stamford, CT, Dora (Theron) Brown and Katie (Jim) Cloud both of Norwalk, CT, Addie (Edward) Jordan and Shirley (Lawrence) Ingram both of Fayetteville, NC; three brothers, Rev. Benjamin (Ruby) Cannon and Nathaniel Cannon both of Opelika, AL and James (Deloris) Cannon of Birmingham, AL; two half-sisters, Sharon Gilmore of Auburn, AL and Lillie Pearl Vinson of Fredericksburg, VA; a half-brother, Henry James Gilmore of Demopolis, AL; a sister-in-law, Rev. Annie Ruth Cannon of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews; other relatives and friends.
