Mr. Bobby Thomas Sr.

A private funeral service for Mr. Bobby Thomas Sr., 79, of Opelika, Alabama will be held at 11:00 am, Saturday, December 4, 2021, at Peterson and Williams Funeral Home Chapel. Following the funeral service, a public graveside service will be held at Evergreen Cemetery. Reverend Justin Freeman will officiate. Masks are required to attend the service. Bobby Sr. was born March 28, 1942, in Lee County, Alabama, and passed away on Thursday, November 18, 2021 in University Place, WA in the home of his son, Bobby Thomas, Jr. Bobby Sr. was a member of Nazareth Missionary Baptist Church. In 1960, he graduated from J.W. Darden High School. Early in his working career, he was employed by Uniroyal BF Goodrich for several years. Bobby Sr. extended his time and service by enlisting in the United States Army Reserve, the Alabama National Guard and as an Alabama Reserve State Trooper. He served as a Reserve Trooper for the Opelika Post. Through his father, Bobby Sr. inherited the drive and fortitude to become an entrepreneur. He owned and operated Thomas Taxicab Service #63. He was known to operate the cleanest taxicab in Opelika, Alabama. Public viewing will be held Friday, December 3, 2021 from 4:00pm-6:00pm. Bobby Sr. is survived by: five children, Steve (Vera) Jackson of Birmingham, AL, Yvette Sparks of Huntsville, AL, Tiffany Johnson of Alpharetta, GA, Bobby (Laura) Thomas, Jr. of University Place, WA and Gloria Motley of Floral Park, NY; seven grandchildren, Steve Jackson II, Mikayla Jackson, Laylah Thomas, Kaiden Johnson, Kellen Johnson, Jase Thomas and James Fowler; two sisters, Hilda (Benjamin) Heard of Montgomery, AL and Jeneffa Thomas of Opelika, AL; one brother-in-law, Benjamin F. Baker, Sr. of Auburn, AL; three aunts, Bernice Thomas of Opelika, AL, Arcola Felton of Auburn, AL and Vetrola Nelms of Opelika, AL; a devoted friend, David Stinson of Opelika, AL; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives, and friends.
